Bye bye baby, you left me high and dry
And I’ll try baby, to leave you far behind
All I wanted was to end with you and I
But bye bye baby, I guess I’ll sit and cry
All I wanted was to buy you flowers
But now I’m waiting on you for hours and hours
So something’s gonna come to change my mind
But as it goes, I know I’m runnin’ out of time
It’s such a shame, that you had to blame all this shit on me again
You and your games, I had to refrain from all the things that happened then
I’m trying my hardest, you just don’t seem to notice
I love you is what you say, you just don’t mean it that way
All I wanted was to look into your eyes
Now I’m seeing all the half-truths and the lies
It’s such a shame, that you had to blame all this shit on me again
You and your games, I had to refrain from all the things that happened then
I’m trying my hardest, you just don’t seem to notice
I love you is what you say, you just don’t mean it that way
Nothin’ is working
I guess I’m just hurting
I know where I could’ve been wrong
No, nothing’s ever what it seems
I’m trying my hardest, you just don’t seem to notice
I love you’s what you said, you just don’t mean it that way
I think it's difficult to write songs about something other than romantic love, and still be able to communicate the intensity with which those feelings can hit a person. Some of the entries on this album are fantastic examples of this niche. dani_bloop
This is undoubtedly my single favorite album of all time. It feels like such a perfect culmination of all the themes and ideas Fleet Foxes has been working with since 2008. It answers many of the questions found on both Helplessness Blues and Crack-Up, and represents an incredible maturation and growth in Robin Pecknold's perspective. Their other albums are certainly masterpieces, but this, in my opinion, is their magnum opus. I doubt it will be recognized as such in its time. isaiah_stuart
